B-SAFE Site Manager
Program Description
St. Stephen's Youth Programs (SSYP) is an afterschool and summer academic and enrichment program for young people from first grade through high school. The goal of the program is to build a community where all people feel safe, feel big, and feel connected. SSYP runs programs year round in the South End and Lower Roxbury neighborhoods and expands to Dorchester and Mattapan for summer programming. Each site includes academic enrichment, health & wellness, visual and performing art workshops; science activities; recreational activities; celebratory events; and many field trips. A healthy breakfast, lunch, and snack is served each day. While based in Episcopal churches, SSYP has no required religious component for staff or youth.
For middle school youth, SSYP runs a Youth Leadership Corps that includes all of the above activities, along with leadership trainings, community service opportunities, and meeting with local political officials. (This runs out of the Lower Roxbury site only.)
For high school youth, SSYP runs a CIT (Counselor-in-Training) program that is a paid job and includes trainings on employment skills, college readiness, healthy relationships, financial literacy, and life skills. SSYP's teen programs also include one-on-one mentoring and College and Career support. There are about 15 CITS at each site.
